How many classes are in WoW Forever?

Nine — the full Classic roster: Warrior, Paladin, Hunter, Rogue, Priest, Shaman, Mage, Warlock and Druid. Forever runs on Classic’s class foundation, with the 51-point talent trees that define Classic builds, and the class fantasy is the one you remember: it is a reimagining of the original level 1-60 experience, not a spec-parallel of Retail. What is new is who can be what: the Skyborne race brings faction-locked class options, and the new race/class combinations open up pairings Classic never allowed. Can you really play an undead paladin?

Yes — and it is the story of the announcement. Undead paladins are confirmed as part of the new race and class combinations, and Wowhead dedicated a full announcement article to them: after nearly twenty years of forum threads, the Forsaken finally get the Light-flavored fantasy the community kept asking for. Blizzard has not published the full mechanics — how the Light interacts with Forsaken lore, or whether the paladin class gets any undead-specific touches — so specifics will land here as they are revealed.

What classes can the Skyborne race play?

The new race splits by faction variant. Every Skyborne can play Warrior, Hunter, Rogue and Druid — with exclusive sky-blue Druid forms — and then the variant choice adds one more: Horde Windshaper Skyborne can play Shaman (elemental traditions), while Alliance High Order Skyborne can play Mage (Kirin Tor philosophy). When will we know more about specs and balance?

BlizzCon 2026 focused on the world, the race and the roadmap, but two developer interviews since then sharpened the class picture. Speaking to MMORPG.com, senior game designer Josh Greenfield (Aggrend) confirmed Season of Discovery class quests carry into Forever — “some of those made it to WoW Forever, and some new ones got added. Some of those got expanded” — and anything that missed the launch cut has years of runway to arrive. Meanwhile, Blizzard told Kotaku that SoD’s wilder experiments like Shaman tanks are not coming at launch: they do not make sense “in terms of simplicity or the identity of classes” in Forever, and the game starts closer to Classic than to SoD. What new race and class combinations exist?

The full matrix has now been datamined from the beta client, and it is bigger than the BlizzCon stage show let on — seven new pairings beyond Classic’s roster. Undead paladin is the headline, but six more land on day one:

Everything else carries over from Classic unchanged — Night Elf and Tauren Druids, Troll and Orc Shamans, and so on. The updated combinations also ripple into the account layer: a Legacy Point for “leveling classes” is the same action as leveling that new undead paladin, per the Legacy system overview.
