How to start Of Mice and Milk in WoW Forever: the Westfall mouse that gives it, the Nesingwary turn-in, why it's unfinished in beta, and the joke behind it.

FAQ

Who gives the Of Mice and Milk quest in WoW Forever?
A Mouse — literally the level 1 critter that scurries around Westfall. Forever turns one of the zone's ambient critter NPCs into a quest giver, and Wowhead's Forever database lists it as the quest's start.
Is Of Mice and Milk completable in the WoW Forever beta?
Not yet. Beta testers report that turning the quest in to Hemet Nesingwary only returns placeholder text, and the community expects it to become completable once beta testing ends and the game goes live.
Why is the quest called Of Mice and Milk?
It is a double joke: the title riffs on the novel Of Mice and Men, and the mouse speaks like a 1930s movie mobster — its quest description reads "I need a cookie, see? Nyeah!"
What does Of Mice and Milk reward?
110 experience on turn-in, per Wowhead's Forever database entry. No item or reputation rewards are listed for the quest.

What is the Of Mice and Milk quest in WoW Forever?

Of Mice and Milk is a joke quest added to WoW Forever in patch 1.60.1 — the same reworked-Azeroth patch that brought new quest chains to the classic starting zones. A level 1 Mouse critter in Westfall asks you for a cookie in a mobster voice, and the turn-in sends you all the way to Azeroth’s most famous big-game hunter. It is Alliance-only, requires level 15, and pays 110 experience.

How do you start Of Mice and Milk?

You talk to a mouse. Not an NPC named something like “Jerry the Mouse” — the actual Mouse critter that has scurried through Westfall since 2004 as ambient wildlife. Wowhead’s database entry for the critter (level 1, 8 health, found at 133 spawn points across Westfall) now lists it as the starter of this quest, which is the whole gag: Blizzard took the least interactive creature in the zone and made it a quest giver.

There is no fixed spot to camp, either. Players on the Blizzard forums report the mouse appears in different places around Westfall — one describes literally stumbling over it in the grass while admiring the zone’s upgraded graphics. Expect to wander: scan for the quest exclamation mark at ground level rather than heading to a coordinate.

The level 15 requirement is the other joke layer. Westfall content normally wraps up before the mid-teens, so by the time you can accept a cookie-fetch from a rodent, you are already on your way out of the zone — and the quest immediately sends you further away. Alliance characters can pick it up during the beta’s Westfall leveling stretch; Horde characters cannot, per the database’s faction flag.

Why does it send you to Hemet Nesingwary?

Because the punchline lands in Stranglethorn Vale. The quest’s completion target is Hemet Nesingwary, the legendary hunter whose STV camp has anchored that zone’s trophy quests since the original game — and whose life’s work is shooting animals. A mouse asking the zone’s most prolific animal killer for a cookie is the kind of dry humor the reworked starting zones keep slipping into quests, and it explains the odd two-zone route: Wowhead lists the quest as spanning Westfall and Stranglethorn Vale, with “Get the mouse a cookie” as the objective text.

Note that the quest is flagged not sharable, so you cannot split the walk across two characters, and the objective list currently names no cookie item or drop source — another sign the quest is still incomplete in the beta build. The community has not solved the cookie question either: the Blizzard forums’ discovery thread ends with players asking where the cookie comes from, with no answer posted.

Is the quest completable in the beta?

Not yet. Beta testers who reached Nesingwary report that the turn-in returns placeholder text rather than a completion, and one commenter summarizes the community’s read: the quest should become completable once beta testing ends and the game goes live on November 4. Until then it is a datamined-and-discoverable Easter egg rather than finishable content — the same state some of the other patch 1.60.1 additions shipped in.

Because beta players keep finding it blind. A mouse with an exclamation mark is exactly the kind of oddity that gets screenshotted into community threads, and the quest’s name is a searchable pun — a riff on the novel Of Mice and Men mashed up with the cookie-and-milk ask, delivered in a 1930s gangster cadence (“I need a cookie, see? Nyeah!”). It sits alongside the reworked Elwynn chain’s Book Return quest as new content layered into zones veterans have memorized for twenty years, and it is one more reason the beta’s questing changes keep surprising returning players.

Practical note for beta testers: the built-in quest UI is still the safe default while tracking addons stabilize — the quest helper guide tracks which addon support has landed, and the Zephras Isle quest coverage shows how the new starting zone’s chains compare to these reworked classic-zone additions.
