FAQ

How do you get to Zephras Isle?
You start there automatically by creating a Skyborne character. Access to the race and its starting questline requires the Skyborne Heroic Pack or a higher edition — there is no in-game travel route to the island for other characters.
How many quests are on Zephras Isle?
Wowhead's Forever database tracks 145 quests in the zone, plus 88 quest rewards. Your actual playthrough is shorter: the opening Thendal Village chain alone covers most of levels 1-12.
How do you get off Zephras Isle?
Finish the storyline and the island hands you off into your faction's normal level 10-20 zones — Horde and Alliance Skyborne leave by different routes. Community guides document specific city runs, such as the Valanaar-to-Ironforge trip for Alliance characters.
Can you go back to Zephras Isle after leaving?
Blizzard has not documented return travel for finished characters. Beta guides note that revisit access, party summons and non-Skyborne visits are still unconfirmed, so treat a return trip as possible but not promised.

What are the quests on Zephras Isle?

Wowhead’s Forever database currently tracks 145 quests on Zephras Isle, the level 1-12 Skyborne starting zone added in patch 1.60.1. You will not see all of them in one pass: the opening Thendal Village chain carries most of the leveling journey, while the rest spread across the island’s hubs and the Al’Aketh conflict. This walkthrough follows that flow — start chain, faction choice, the cult storyline, then the exit — instead of listing every quest ID. The zone itself is covered in the broader Zephras Isle guide.

How do you start the Zephras Isle questline?

You begin on the island automatically: create a Skyborne character and the starting experience opens in Thendal Village, the level 1 settlement in the island’s northwest corner. No travel, no unlock quest — the village is your first quest hub the moment you log in. What you do need is the Skyborne Heroic Pack ($29.99) or a higher edition, since the race and its starting questline are gated behind the paid packs; beta access itself requires the Epic Pack or the Warcraft Forever Collection.

What is the Thendal Village quest chain?

The opening chain runs thirteen steps from your arrival through your first real tests against the island’s wildlife and cultists. Every step is shared across classes except step 6, which has a unique version for each of the six classes Skyborne can play.

StepQuest
1Coming of Age
2Harmony in Balance
3Elemental Unrest
4Agitators
5Return to Rorian
6Class quest (see below)
7Infestation Investigation
8The Cirrusfly Queen
9Reading the Ley Lines
10The Anchors of Zephras
11Falling with Style
12Aetheen of the Gales
13Foul Matriarch

Step 6 deserves a note of its own. Each class gets a thematically named intro quest, and there are exactly six variants — matching the six classes the Skyborne race can actually play:

ClassQuest
WarriorThe Warrior’s Path
HunterThe Way of the Hunter
RogueAt Home in the Shadows
DruidA Student of Nature
ShamanEmbracing the Elements
MageA Student of the Arcane

No Priest, Paladin or Warlock version exists because Skyborne cannot be those classes at all — the race’s faction-locked caster options are covered in the Skyborne race guide.

What is the Al’Aketh storyline about?

The Al’Aketh are the island’s antagonists: a hostile cult devoted to Al’Akir the Windlord that seized a real portion of Zephras Isle after the wind spirits who once protected it vanished. Mid-level quests push you through their ranks — Wowhead lists nearly two dozen Al’Aketh mob types, from level 2 Neophytes to level 11 Honor Guards — and their leader, High Priestess Lorthuna, waits at the top of the arc. You never align with them; the cult content exists to earn standing with whichever faction you actually chose.

Who are the Windshapers and the High Order?

Before the Al’Aketh arc escalates, you pick a side: the Horde-aligned Windshapers, the race’s shamanistic spiritual leaders who unlock Shaman, or the Alliance-aligned High Order, descendants of Highborne magisters who unlock Mage. Both share Warrior, Hunter, Rogue and Druid. The choice locks your exclusive caster forever — one character cannot try both — and the class implications are broken down in the classes overview.

What locations and hubs should you know?

The island is compact, but beta guides consistently name five places worth remembering:

LocationWhat happens there
Thendal VillageLevel 1 start; the opening 13-step chain
ValanaarThe Skyborne racial capital and the zone’s main hub for vendors, trainers and class quests
Shrine of AkirStory location tied to the elemental crisis
Nightclaw CavernStory cavern tied to the Nightclaw Druid NPCs
Shadowgale Forest / Gustberry LowlandsOutdoor questing space between hubs

Two rares also anchor the tail end of the zone: Baron Anvillaxx, a level 13 elite elemental, and Den’dralass, the Great Mother, a rare beast. Neither is required to finish the island, but both sit in the level range where players run out of chain quests and go hunting.

How do you get off Zephras Isle?

Finish the storyline and the island hands you into your faction’s normal level 10-20 zones — there is no shared exit. Horde players document routes through their own starting regions, while Alliance guides track the trip from Valanaar to Ironforge step by step. If you just want out mid-chain, your hearthstone and any flight paths you have opened still work like anywhere else in the game.

How To Get To Zephras Isle (Valanaar) (HORDE) — community beta footage

Blizzard has not yet documented whether you can return after leaving, whether party summons reach the island, or whether non-Skyborne characters can visit — all three are flagged as open questions in beta guides, so plan alts around the character creation decisions rather than a revisit.

A community playthrough covers the island’s story arc from the Thendal Village opening onward — useful for previewing the plot before you spend your own beta hours on it.
