FAQ

Does WoW Forever have professions?
Yes. Blizzard's official Camping article names the full roster — two primary professions and all three secondaries — the Legacy system has a dedicated Professions perk tree, every profession gets a placeable camp object, and official coverage references over 600 new recipes.
What professions will WoW Forever have?
The confirmed roster: gathering professions Skinning, Mining and Herbalism; crafting professions Alchemy, Blacksmithing, Enchanting, Engineering, Leatherworking and Tailoring (pick two); and all three secondaries — Cooking, Fishing and First Aid. That is the complete Classic set, confirmed by Blizzard's official Camping article.
Is there a profession skill cap in WoW Forever?
The record points to 300: beta datamining of Legacy challenges lists first-time profession milestones like "reaching 300 skill (one per tradeskill)", and profession ranks run Apprentice to Journeyman to Expert to Artisan, as in Classic. No numeric cap is in an official article yet, so treat 300 as the working baseline.
Do professions matter for the Legacy system?
Yes. The Professions tree pays out for every tradeskill: Working Overtime raises skill-gain chance, Master Chef and Luremaster boost Cooking and Fishing output, and Dedicated Study pushes your lowest tradeskill — with a bonus once both primaries and all three secondaries reach 300.
Do any races have profession racials in WoW Forever?
Confirmed examples: Tauren Cultivation grows bonus herbs that do not require Herbalism to gather (its cooldown dropped to 15 minutes in the October 15 beta build), and Gnome Engineering Specialization makes engineering devices more reliable.

Are professions in WoW Forever?

Yes — and the launch roster is no longer a guess. Professions show up in four confirmed places: the account-wide Legacy system spends a whole perk branch on them, the Camping system is built around profession-made objects, the Legacy guide counts over 600 new recipes among the revamped professions, and the Summer 2027 roadmap wave promises “profession & Legacy updates” on top. The decisive addition came on October 21, 2026, when Blizzard’s official “Gather Around the Campfire” article enumerated the roster outright: two primary professions from the Classic gathering-and-crafting set, and all three secondary professions — Cooking, Fishing and First Aid.

The confirmed profession roster

Blizzard’s Camping article splits the list the Classic way:

SlotProfessionConfirmed where
Primary (pick 2)SkinningOfficial Camping article — gathering list + Camp Chair object
Primary (pick 2)MiningOfficial Camping article — gathering list
Primary (pick 2)HerbalismOfficial Camping article — gathering list + Incense Candle + Tauren Cultivation
Primary (pick 2)AlchemyOfficial Camping article — crafting list + Mana Well object
Primary (pick 2)BlacksmithingOfficial Camping article — crafting list + Sharpening Wheel
Primary (pick 2)EnchantingOfficial Camping article — crafting list + Enchanted Lute
Primary (pick 2)EngineeringOfficial Camping article — crafting list + Reagent Bot + Gnome racial
Primary (pick 2)LeatherworkingOfficial Camping article — crafting list + Camp Tent
Primary (pick 2)TailoringOfficial Camping article — crafting list + Faction Banner
Secondary (all 3)CookingOfficial Camping article — Basic Campfire itself is a Cooking object
Secondary (all 3)FishingOfficial Camping article — Fishing Bowl + Legacy Luremaster perk
Secondary (all 3)First AidOfficial Camping article — First Aid Kit object

Two structural rules ship with the list: you learn professions from trainers in the world or major cities and unlearn them from the Professions tab (K), and ranks progress from Apprentice to Journeyman to Expert and finally Artisan — the Classic ladder, unchanged.

What the Legacy Professions tree confirms

The strongest evidence that professions matter — not just exist — is that Forever’s account-wide progression spends five perks on them. Each is a 0/5 rank in the Legacy tree’s Professions branch:

Legacy perkEffectWhat it tells you
Working Overtime+4% chance to gain a skill increase from any primary, secondary or class-based tradeskillSkill-ups remain the core loop; “class-based tradeskill” is a category Classic did not advertise
Performance Bonus5% chance of 100% increased Merchant Favor from crate turn-insA commerce/reputation layer exists alongside crafting
LuremasterWhile fishing with a lure active, 25% chance to catch an extra fishFishing survives with lure mechanics intact
Master ChefCooking recipes have a 10% chance to create an extra resultCooking keeps its consumable economy
Dedicated Study25 sec cast, 23 hr cooldown: +1 skill in your lowest tradeskill; if both primaries and all three secondaries are at 300, grants 2-4 random Elemental EssencesThe endgame target is 300 in every tradeskill

That last row is the most informative sentence in the record: it names both primaries and all three secondaries — the structure the official roster article then confirmed — and puts the number 300 on the target. Beta datamining of Legacy challenges agrees, listing first-time profession milestones like “reaching 300 skill (one per tradeskill)”. No official article has printed a numeric cap table, so 300 stays the working baseline.

What the Camping system confirms about specific professions

Camping is where each profession gets a physical presence in the world. A placed Basic Campfire — itself a Cooking object — supports up to three crafted camp features, and Blizzard’s October 21 article lists one for every profession, with effects that are variants of class buffs and exclusive with them:

ProfessionCamp objectConfirmed effect
CookingBasic Campfire (upgrades to 5 or 10 slots)Enables cooking and camp feature placement; sitters gain other features’ buffs after 1 minute
First AidFirst Aid Kit (skill 20)3-56 increased Stamina for nearby sitters, exclusive with Power Word: Fortitude
FishingFishing Bowl (skill 20)8% increased stats for nearby sitters, exclusive with Blessing of Kings
AlchemyMana Well (skill 20)Restores 10-29 Mana every 5 sec for nearby sitters, mutually exclusive with Blessing of Wisdom
BlacksmithingSharpening Wheel (skill 20)6-34 increased Strength for nearby sitters, mutually exclusive with Strength of Earth Totem
EnchantingEnchanted Lute (skill 20)28-260 Armor, stat and resistance bonuses for nearby sitters, mutually exclusive with Mark of the Wild
EngineeringReagent Bot (skill 20)Lets nearby players purchase reagents
HerbalismIncense Candle (skill 20)2-25 increased Intellect for nearby sitters, mutually exclusive with Arcane Intellect
LeatherworkingCamp Tent (skill 20)+5% of a level in Rested experience for nearby sitters
SkinningCamp Chair (skill 20)2% increased critical strike chance for nearby sitters, exclusive with Moonkin Aura
TailoringFaction Banner (skill 20)14-32 increased Spirit for same-faction sitters, mutually exclusive with Divine Spirit

The progression rules around them: the first object for a profession arrives at skill level 20 through starter-zone quests or purchase from a profession trainer, items requiring skill 140 or higher drop from dungeons and raids, and all camp features require a nearby campfire and share a 1-hour cooldown. Beyond the buff objects, professions unlock conveniences such as Alchemy Laboratories and Tanning Racks, and upgraded Campfires raise the placement limit to five or 10 objects. Races feed in too: the confirmed Tauren racial Cultivation grows bonus herbs that do not require Herbalism to gather, and the Gnome racial Engineering Specialization makes engineering devices more reliable. The full racial table is in the racials guide.

How the beta tuned professions

The beta development notes touched the system in every major build, which is useful evidence about launch direction:

  • October 1 build — a number of Blacksmithing and Leatherworking recipes that were random dungeon drops became available; crafted common and uncommon wands sell to vendors for 1 copper; Mining lost some Poor Copper Vein nodes in starter areas; Skinning returned to the single-skin-per-creature rule.
  • October 8 build — Armor Kits that grant Attack Power no longer double-dip into Ranged Attack Power; the Enchant Weapon - Recovery enchant was fixed for shapeshifted Druids.
  • October 15/16 build — many profession-crafted items had their vendor sell price reduced, and the Professions UI panel received display fixes.

Read together: Classic-era economy rules (vendor values, single skinning, node density) are being actively enforced, and crafting output is being deflated against gold inflation — gathering and crafting both behave like their Classic selves with Forever’s own knobs on top. How much of the wider Classic or Retail design Forever keeps is the Classic vs Retail comparison’s subject.

What is still not documented

Three gaps remain between “confirmed roster” and “complete guide”: the numeric skill-cap-per-rank table (only the Legacy-datamined 300 datapoint exists), per-profession recipe counts against the official 600+ total, and the First Aid bandage lineup. The dates that matter for when those details surface are on the release date timeline — launch on November 4 is the next big reveal, with the Summer 2027 roadmap wave promising profession updates after that.
