What racial abilities do the Skyborne have?
The Skyborne — Forever’s new playable race — carry four racials, three of them shared between the two faction variants you choose at character creation. Both get the signature glide, a haste passive and an anti-Elemental passive; the fourth slot is where Horde and Alliance split, trading a mobility blessing against a regeneration ability. The full breakdown is below.
Skyborne racials, variant by variant
Both variants were confirmed by Wowhead’s panel coverage of the Skyborne reveal:
| Racial | Type | Effect | Variant |
|---|---|---|---|
| Walk on Air | Active | Glide downward through the air for 10 seconds | Both |
| Wind Blessed | Passive | 1% increased melee, ranged and spellcasting Haste | Both |
| Elemental Insight | Passive | Damage to Elementals increased by 5% | Both |
| Skysight | Active | Receive an Elemental Blessing that increases run speed by 10% | Windshaper (Horde) only |
| Read Ley Line | Active | Activate a ley line to gain 100% increased Health and Mana regeneration | High Order (Alliance) only |
Reading the split: Windshapers get a flat always-useful movement tool, while High Order get a burst recovery effect that matters after downtime-heavy Classic fights — 100% regeneration for a window is a meaningful out-of-combat speedup and a niche in-combat sustain tool for classes that can afford to stand still. Neither is a damage racial, which fits Blizzard’s stated aim of keeping racials meaningful but not build-defining.
If you are deciding between the variants, the choice overlaps with the class availability split — Windshapers can also be Shaman, High Order can also be Mages — so pick the variant whose racial and class list you prefer.
Which existing racials are changing?
Four reworks were confirmed in the panel coverage, and a fifth surfaced from hands-on testing at the BlizzCon demo:
| Race | Racial | What changed |
|---|---|---|
| Tauren | Cultivation | Now grows bonus herbs that do not require Herbalism to gather |
| Tauren | Plainsrunning | Demo testing shows it back as an out-of-combat movement buff that scales the longer you keep moving |
| Orc | Axe Specialization | Now increases Critical Chance (previously Axe skill/expertise-style) |
| Gnome | Expansive Mind | Now increases your maximum resource |
| Gnome | Eureka! (new) | Your next 3 damaging abilities deal 10% more damage with a 10% cost reduction — heavily nerfed from the datamined up-to-50% mana / 40% rage / 20% energy values in the September 25 beta build, then nerfed again on October 2 to exclude periodic effects entirely |
The Gnome pair looked like the most interesting mechanic on paper — Expansive Mind raising the resource ceiling plus Eureka! discounting a three-cast window would have given Gnomes a real burst economic advantage, especially for mana-hungry casters. That changed in the September 25 beta build: Eureka!‘s cost reduction was nerfed to a flat 10% for every class (down from up to 50% mana for casters), leaving the +10% damage as the ability’s remaining punch. The official October 2 changelog then nerfed it again: Eureka! no longer benefits periodic effects at all (channeled spells don’t count as periodics) — damage-over-time ticks like Rogue Garrote and Rupture or Warrior Rend gain nothing, so the buff only covers direct hits. Orc crit on axes quietly rehabilitates several Classic weapon choices.
Every racial in the beta client, race by race
The beta client has now been datamined end to end, so the full racial lineup — all eight Classic races with Forever-tuned values — is on the record. Several of these are straight Classic carryovers; the headline changes are flagged in the table above. Values below follow Wowhead’s datamine, updated September 25, 2026, and reflect the live beta build:
| Race | Racial | Effect in Forever |
|---|---|---|
| Undead | Cannibalize | Regenerates 7% of total Health and Mana every 2 sec for 10 sec (Humanoid/Undead corpses within 5 yd; any movement, action or damage cancels) |
| Undead | Touch of the Grave | Spells and attacks have a 5% chance to drain Health from the target, up to 5% of your maximum Health |
| Undead | Underwater Breathing | Breath lasts 300% longer than normal |
| Undead | Will of the Forsaken | Instantly removes all Charm, Fear and Sleep effects |
| Tauren | Endurance | Total Health increased by 5% and Hit Chance increased by 1% |
| Tauren | War Stomp | Stuns nearby enemies for 2 sec |
| Tauren | Plainsrunning | Movement speed builds the longer you stay moving |
| Tauren | Cultivation | Grows bonus herbs that don’t require Herbalism to gather |
| Orc | Blood Fury | Increases Attack Power and Spell Power by 10% for 15 sec |
| Orc | Axe Specialization | Axes increase spell and ability Critical Chance |
| Orc | Hardiness | Stun durations decreased by 20% |
| Orc | Shatter Curse | Immunity to Curses and Banes, and reduces Magic damage taken, for 8 sec |
| Troll | Berserking | Increases casting and attack speed by 10% for 10 sec |
| Troll | Regeneration | 10% of Health regeneration continues during combat |
| Troll | Rapid Regeneration | Regenerates 50% of maximum Health over time |
| Troll | Beast Slaying | Damage to Beasts increased by 5% |
| Dwarf | Stoneform | Removes and grants immunity to Bleeds, Poisons and Diseases; reduces Physical damage taken by 10% for 8 sec |
| Dwarf | Mace Specialization | 1% increased critical strike chance with a mace or two-handed mace equipped |
| Dwarf | Big Game Hunter | Damage versus Beasts increased by 5% |
| Dwarf | Find Treasure | Tracks nearby treasure; stacks with other tracking |
| Gnome | Eureka! | Your next 3 damaging abilities deal 10% more damage with a 10% cost reduction (nerfed September 25 from up to 50% mana / 40% rage / 20% energy; periodic effects excluded entirely since October 2) |
| Gnome | Expansive Mind | Increases your maximum resource |
| Gnome | Engineering Specialization | Engineering devices are more reliable |
| Gnome | Escape Artist | Brief immunity to Roots and Snares |
| Human | Will to Survive | Removes Stun effects |
| Human | Perception | Detects Stealthed enemies for 20 sec |
| Human | Sword Specialization | Swords increase spell and ability Critical Chance by 2% |
| Human | The Human Spirit | Spirit increased by 5% |
| Night Elf | Elune’s Light | Increases Critical Chance by 10% for 15 sec |
| Night Elf | Quickness | 1% increased Dodge Chance and 2% increased Run Speed |
| Night Elf | Shadowmeld | Gain Stealth while immobile |
| Night Elf | Wisp Spirit | Transform into a wisp on death, movement speed increased by 75% |
Two things to note when comparing against old Classic muscle memory: Night Elf’s Elune’s Light is effectively a new Berserking-for-Night-Elves (a 15-second 10% crit burst), and Orc’s Shatter Curse — curse immunity on a racial — is a brand-new PvP-facing tool in a game where curse cleansing is a class privilege. Full tooltip text for Will to Survive was still marked incomplete in the datamine.
What about undead — and the undead paladin problem?
The headline new race and class combination is the undead paladin, and the obvious mechanical objection is lore-classic: Holy magic damages Forsaken bodies. Demo reports indicate Blizzard solved it with a racial-level bridge — undead characters gain bonus regeneration that compensates for the self-damage their own Holy spells inflict. Undead paladins were not playable at the BlizzCon demo stations, but the combination is live in the beta now, and the September 25 development notes confirmed the Undead side is being actively tuned there: Dark Sacrifice no longer breaks crowd control that breaks on damage, and its tooltip now correctly shows that the Mana gained scales with Spirit. The exact size of the paladin regeneration bridge is still being measured in the live test.
Do racials still matter in Forever?
Blizzard’s rework pattern — utility and quality-of-life over raw throughput — suggests racials are meant to flavor characters rather than dictate them, which matches how the system-by-system comparison characterizes the game’s overall philosophy: Classic bones, modern feel. That said, 1% shared haste plus a strong fourth racial will still matter at the margins of min-maxed raid rosters, and the Skyborne’s Elemental damage bonus is worth watching given how many Classic bosses are Elementals.
For the class side of the equation — which races can be which classes, and how the 51-point talent trees work — the class overview has the full list, and the Skyborne race guide covers their starting experience and Druid forms.
