FAQ

Is WoW Forever the same as Classic Plus?
Yes — "Classic+" was the community's working name for updated Classic content, and World of Warcraft: Forever is Blizzard's official version of it, announced at BlizzCon 2026.
Is Classic Era going away because of Forever?
No. Classic Era, Cataclysm Classic and Mists of Pandaria Classic continue alongside Forever — all covered by the same subscription.
Does WoW Forever raise the level cap?
No — the cap stays at level 60 indefinitely. Growth comes from new zones, quests, dungeons and raids on a roadmap, not from level increases.
Does Forever have transmog?
Yes, but it is opt-in: players can enable or disable seeing other players' transmogs client-side, so purists can keep the original 2004 look.
What does Forever cost compared to Classic?
The same — both are included with an active WoW subscription or Game Time. Forever's optional packs ($29.99 and up) only add perks like the Skyborne race and cosmetics.

What is the difference between Classic Plus and WoW Forever?

Nothing — and that is the point. “Classic Plus” was the community’s shorthand for the hypothetical updated Classic everyone wanted: new content in the original world, without changing the level 60 game. World of Warcraft: Forever is Blizzard making it official, announced at BlizzCon 2026 and launching November 4, 2026. Wowhead’s announcement coverage put it plainly: Classic+ is World of Warcraft Forever. The rest of this page compares Forever with the versions it sits next to — frozen Classic Era and modern Retail.

What does Forever add that Classic Era never got?

Era is a museum: the original game preserved as it shipped. Forever treats that same world as a living foundation. Concretely: the Skyborne race with faction-locked Shaman and Mage access, new race/class combos like undead paladins, new zones (Zephras Isle, Riverglades, Shen’dralas, a renewed Mount Hyjal), new dungeons and Classic-sized 10/20-man raids, the account-wide Legacy system, and a published roadmap — with Hardcore mode on the way. The endgame shape is in the dungeons & raids overview.

How has the community reacted?

Mixed, in the way big Classic announcements always are. Reddit’s r/classicwow threads after the reveal show cautious optimism — many calling Forever a genuine “Classic+” experience — pushing back against two things: the Skyborne race being gated behind the $29.99 Heroic Pack, and beta access requiring the $59.99 Epic tier. Blizzard forums show the same split, with threads both welcoming the new content and requesting changes before launch. Nobody, on either side, disputes that this is the Classic+ Blizzard promised to consider for years.

Does Forever replace Classic Era or the Anniversary servers?

Blizzard has presented Forever as an addition, not a replacement — Era, Cataclysm Classic and Mists of Pandaria Classic were all shown as continuing at BlizzCon 2026 alongside Forever’s roadmap. If you love the frozen museum, it stays; if you want the museum to grow, Forever is the new wing.

Which should you play?

If you want the original game exactly as it was, Era is untouched. If you want the original game with a future — new zones, a new race, new raids at the same level cap, and account-wide perks — that is Forever, and the beta access guide and What Is WoW Forever? are the starting points.
