FAQ

Is WoW Forever a separate game or an expansion?
It is a new way to play World of Warcraft — a Classic+ version of the original game included with your normal subscription or Game Time, alongside Classic Era and Retail. Optional packs add perks, but no purchase is required to play.
What is the level cap in WoW Forever?
Level 60 — the same as original Classic — and Blizzard has said it will stay at 60 indefinitely, with new content added through a public roadmap instead of level increases.
What is new in WoW Forever compared to Classic?
1000+ new quests across levels 1-60, the new Skyborne race with two faction variants, undead paladins and other new race/class combos, new zones like Zephras Isle and Riverglades, new dungeons and 10/20-man raids, and the account-wide Legacy system.
How much does WoW Forever cost?
It is included with an active World of Warcraft subscription or Game Time. Optional pre-purchase packs from $29.99 add the Skyborne race, beta access, cosmetics and game time.
When did WoW Forever get announced?
At BlizzCon 2026 in September 2026, with a beta running September 17 to October 21, 2026, and the full launch on November 4, 2026.

What is World of Warcraft: Forever?

World of Warcraft: Forever is Blizzard’s official Classic+ experience — a reimagined version of the original level 1-60 game, announced at BlizzCon 2026 and launching on November 4, 2026. It keeps Classic’s world and leveling journey but layers on years of new content: more than 1000 new quests, a brand-new playable race, new zones, dungeons, and raids, and an account-wide progression system. It is included with a normal WoW subscription — no separate purchase required.

What stays the same as Classic?

The bones are pure Classic: the original Eastern Kingdoms and Kalimdor, the classic class fantasy, the 51-point talent trees, and the level 60 ceiling. Veterans keep the levelling journey they remember — Blizzard’s own framing is that your adventure “begins across the Eastern Kingdoms and Kalimdor” just like 2004, but through “new and reimagined regions”. The optional-transmog policy underlines the approach: if you want the original 2004 look, you can turn all player transmogs off, client-side.

What is genuinely new?

Five headline systems separate Forever from the Classic you remember:

  1. The Skyborne race — a new playable race with two faction variants (Horde Windshapers, Alliance High Order), faction-locked Shaman and Mage access, and exclusive Druid forms. See the Skyborne race guide.
  2. New race/class combinations — headlined by undead paladins, a 20-year community request.
  3. New endgame — new dungeons plus 10-man and 20-man raids releasing on a roadmap, starting with Barrow Deeps and Hyjal Summit in December 2026. Details in the dungeons & raids overview.
  4. The Legacy system — achievement-style challenges that award points spent in an account-wide, non-combat perk tree (rested XP, reputation gains, profession bonuses).
  5. A living roadmap — Blizzard publishes what’s next: new zones, raids, and systems like the upcoming Hardcore mode, with the level cap staying at 60 forever.

How does it fit next to Classic Era and Retail?

Forever is a third way to play WoW — it lives alongside Classic Era, Cataclysm Classic, Mists of Pandaria Classic, and Retail, all covered by the same subscription. Blizzard compared it directly to Classic: “all players can access WoW: Forever through their normal game subscription without additional purchase, just like Classic.” The differences are philosophical, and our Classic Plus vs WoW Forever comparison breaks them down point by point.

When can I play it?

The beta ran from September 17 to October 21, 2026, and the full game launches November 4, 2026 at 6:00 p.m. ET / 3:00 p.m. PT. The access options and dates are covered in the beta access guide and the release date & launch guide. If you want the Skyborne race or its starting zone on day one, those require the Heroic Pack or higher — pricing is in the Collector’s Edition & packs guide.

What is the Legacy system in one paragraph?

Legacy challenges are achievement-like goals across six categories — exploring, levelling classes, tradeskills, PvP ranks, reputations, and dungeons/raids. Each completed challenge grants a Legacy Point, spent in a special talent tree that unlocks account-wide perks: faster rested XP, a head start on talent points (from level 9 instead of 10), profession boosts, reputation gains, and more. Blizzard says none of the perks are combat-related — they speed up the journey, they don’t change the fights.
